Webinar: Project Management using SharePoint 2010

Again with so many people / organizations needing (wanting) to manage their projects, Project Management is indeed a "Hot Topic".

There are many tools available on the market, and I personally don't have a preference even if I seem to focus a lot on MS Project and MS SharePoint. The reason I revert back to these products are simply because I've used them and have had to do research about them. Althought both MS Project and MS SharePoint are great, I do realize that they can become fairly complex and ...expensive. With that in mind, when viewing / reading some of the videos and tips I share - "read between the lines" and collect what works for you and, even if you use a different product - try to visualize how these tips could potentially be used within your environment... Think Outside the Box.

Below is a Recorded Webinar shared by Asif Rehmani. More similar training videos can be found, http://www.sharepoint-videos.com.

This Webinar in particular focuses on:
"...building project management processes directly on any flavor of SharePoint 2010 (Foundation, Server or even SharePoint Online within Office 365).

Nearly every organization already uses SharePoint at some level for simple things like document management, but many times all of the other things SharePoint does really well go unused. This webinar shows how to leverage features like discussion boards, task lists, shared calendars, roll-up web parts and more to manage most or all of your projects in one place! We discuss ways for providing self-serve status updates that automatically roll-up to the summary pages per each project (and even across all of your projects)."
The Webinar is 1hr and 15 minutes.

Project Management using SharePoint 2010

Below is a video shared by Manmeet Chaudhari (Manmeet Chaudhari) demonstrating how project related information can be shared using SharePoint 2010.

What do I need to purchase?

Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 provides project tasks lists to help you track the work required to complete a project. Project tasks lists do not require a separate project management application, such as Microsoft Project 2010 or Microsoft Project Server 2010, and can be really useful in helping to clearly communicate about work progress.

Which translates to, you don't need to be licensed for Microsoft Project 2010 to use the Project task list that comes with SharePoint 2010 (Foundation). The Microsoft Project license is however required if you are indeed using MS Project and/or are using the MS Project Server 2010 with SharePoint 2010.

In the meantime, let's hear what they have to teach us:

Productivity - Gaining Efficiencies with Office

I stubbled upon a great Productivity video series given by Dr Nitin Paranjape. The Full 2 hour productivity session was broken down into multiple mini-videos and shared on YouTube by The Future of Productivity. Thank you for sharing. :)

One of Dr. Paranjape's analogies compares The Sun Rise/Set to Microsoft Office.
We (see) use it everyday and so we start taking it for granted.
Office can acctually create time - if we use the right features in the right ways.
